Prescribed Fire on Thursday, December 18th, 2025
Update: Fire Extinguished at 2:00pm.
The Colbert-Cameron Mitigation Bank will be utilizing Prescribed Fire as a land management activity on Thursday, December 18th starting at approximately 11:00am.
This is a 50-acre controlled burn that will be South-East of Blackberry Rd and Dragonfly Run. Smoke screens show smoke traveling NW. We expect this burn to create a good amount of smoke due to the amount of fuel on the ground..
Couple of notes for the weather conditions that we are expecting:
- We expect the smoke to rise and then fall. The distance that it travels before it falls is still unknown.
- Lake Harney Woods POA Residents: If this occurs, and the smoke doesn’t have a long travel distance, you should expect a smokey evening.
It is never our intention to cause heavy smoke in Lake Harney Woods POA, but due to safety concerns from SR 46 and other weather parameters, this is sometimes our only option. This time of the year gives great results for our ecosystems. Florida Ecosystems RELY on Rx Fire! We appreciate your understanding.
Please exercise caution while driving near the burn. Smoke direction can change in an instant and cause decreased visibility.
Prescribed Fire is a very important land management tool that does wonderful things for the ecosystem. As a mitigation bank, we are obligated to follow the rules of the regulatory agencies, one of which is prescribed fire to increase ecosystem success.
